The art of learning how to love oneself is elusive to many women who may be taught from a young age to be self-sacrificing and to put others first. Add in internalized patriarchy, and it can be a wonder that so many strong women thrive with a strong sense of self-love. However, that reality is very much within your reach. No matter how long ago you were faced with the problems that have kept you down, counseling can help you combat these issues and take control of your life.
Set Therapy Goals
When you go to therapy for the first time, speak to your counselor about what you hope to accomplish with your sessions. If you're not sure but have a general idea of what kind of life you ultimately want to live, your therapist can help you transform those hopes and aspirations into certain goals. When you have therapy goals, that can help you see the progress that you are making more clearly and also help provide focus along the way.
Work on All Aspects of Your Life
A holistic approach to healing doesn't mean that you neglect medical care. In fact, a true holistic approach would include the best health care possible that include any medications you may need. It's important to work on every part of your life as you try to heal because they are all interrelated in some ways. The parts of yourself have an impact on one another. Spiritual adventures for women are just as important as physical activity to help one develop optimal health.
Create an Empowering Soundtrack
Music can have an impact on every aspect of your life, and choosing tracks that celebrate the way you want to live can go a long way towards helping you stay motivated. Some songs that are created and inspired by strong women include the following tunes:
Finally, keep in mind that it does take consistent work and a strong commitment to heal. A counselor (such as Teresa Maron) can help you guide the way, but you must first empower yourself by showing up to sessions on a regular basis and putting in the work. While you can't expect any overnight miracles, learning to love yourself can be a very real and special thing that sustains you going forward and helps you live life to the fullest.

When I initially started the therapy process about 10 years ago, I didn't take the time to scout out the right counselor. Instead, I just went to the first counselor that my doctor recommended, and the experience was less than enjoyable. I realized that I might need to do a little research to find the right counselor for me, so I took the time to carefully evaluate my needs and research different clinics in my area. I was able to find an amazing counselor who really seemed to have it under control, and it was incredibly beneficial to see the difference that it made. This blog is all about finding the right counselor.
